There are so many different reasons we scroll on social media. Maybe we want to participate in the forum of ideas-- the town square of conversations, the superhighway of information. That's what the people who invented social media dreamed that it would be used for. To bring people closer together, to spread ideas around the world, and to give people access to information. In a certain way, we did get this out of it. We get to know what our friends are thinking, what they're wearing, and what extravagant vacation they're on.

We have all the information in the world at our literal fingertips. We're able to connect with people halfway across the world at no cost. But this isn't always what social media is used for. At least in my life, social media is used as a distraction. I go to it to find goofs and gags and jokes and laughs. This is okay too. We need a little distraction from our day-to-day sometimes. It's why we come to Twitter.
